Carl Zeiss NTS and Aimia Foods score Best Factory Award hat tricks
Carl Zeiss NTS and Aimia Foods have both recorded a hat-trick of award wins at the Best Factory Awards 2011.
Aimia Foods, the vending machine products manufacturer, scooped the Most Improved Plant, Best SME and Skills Development Awards for its St Helens site.
Carl Zeiss's Cambridge plant celebrated the Best Electronics & Electrical plant, People Management and Health & Safety Awards.
The two companies picked up the prizes at a stellar awards ceremony attended by 350 industry leaders at the Park Lane Hotel in London this afternoon.
Aimia won praise in the Most Improved Plant award for its on-time, in-full delivery rate of nearly 97%.
The St Helens site was also praised for innovative product development in the Best SME category.
Standout successes include manufacturing the UK's first organic, Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance certified vending machine coffee.
Carl Zeiss NTS secured the Health & Safety award thanks to the Cambridge factory's five-year run without a single reportable accident despite operating potentially hazardous equipment.
The company's nanotechnology products include an electron microscope being used to search for cures for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
The Judges praised a strong training ethic at the Cambridge site: "There is a commitment to training and education for all the employees and a management team working on getting everybody actively involved in improving the business, not just in manufacturing but in other areas too."
